ROCKS & BACTERIA EXPERIMENT

My experiment was as follows:

Prediction: If bacteria abundance is affected by the availability of organic materials and moisture, then the bottom of a rock should yield more colonies of bacteria than the top of a rock would.

Procedure:

1) Find 2 rocks within 1 foot of each other.

2) Swab the top of Rock 1 twice on a nutrient agar plate.

3) Swab the bottom of Rock 1 twice on a nutrient agar plate.

4) Repeat steps 2 and 3 with Rock 2.

5) For the negative control, use a sterile swab to swab the plate (without swabbing a rock first).

Side note: the view was absolutely gorgeous! And there were orb spiders under the deck with giant webs along with many other critters.
